Getting the most from your rials for your trip to Oman

If you’re going on holiday to Oman, you’re going to want to sort out some currency for your trip. The Omani rial is the official national currency of Oman, and it’s used nowhere else.

The daily exchange rate for Omani rials varies all the time as you’d expect, but the average in early 2023 was around OMR 0.45 to the pound.

Where to buy Omani rials

It’s always better to line up your Omani rials before you leave, to get the best exchange rates. You can do this very easily at your nearest TUI Store, or you can order them online.

Using your Omani rials

ATMs are found all over Oman, even in small towns, and major credit cards are widely accepted. Expect to spend OMR 30-50 a day while you’re there, though shops often offer discounts, and you can try some haggling for taxis and souvenirs. To get a better idea of your budget, why not try our handy TUI calculator?

Tipping is not widespread in Oman, but one rial for hotel service staff is common. Larger restaurants might expect a 10% tip, if service isn’t included.
