How to make the most of your Canadian dollars for your holiday

Setting off on holiday to Canada? It must be time to think about sorting your travel money. The Canadian dollar, written as CAD or C$, is the currency used throughout Canada. Like the US dollar, it’s divided into 100 cents.

As with all exchange rates, the rate between British pounds and Canadian dollars won’t stay in one place for long, but the average exchange rate for early 2023 was around C$1.57 to every £1.

Where can you buy Canadian dollars?

Canadian dollars can be picked up in your nearest TUI Store or via the TUI website. Did you know that the TUI Travel Money Card can be used just like a debit card? Use it free of charge for 12 currencies across 36 million worldwide locations.

Making the most of your Canadian dollars

Because of its size, Canada can prove costly if you’re travelling between locations, so be sure to budget carefully for any moving around you plan to do. You’ll notice taxes of up to 15% charged on top of most purchases, including accommodation, food bills and clothing. So remember to factor those charges into your daily budget too.

Like the US, tipping in Canada is expected – aim for 15-20% for dining out, drinks in bars, taxi journeys, hotel porters, and places like beauty salons.
